In simple terms: TOK isn't a typical subject with facts to memorise. It's a critical thinking class that explores the nature of knowledge across the subjects. The central question is, "How do we know what we claim to know?"
Students don't learn *what* to think, but *how* to think. They'll explore different facets and concepts of knowledge (ethics, methods, perspectives) and different areas of knowledge (like history, the arts, and natural sciences). This helps them connect their learning across all their IB subjects.
Every IB Diploma student takes six subjects. They choose three to study at Higher Level (HL) and three at Standard Level (SL). The right balance is key to a manageable workload and a strong university application.

Crucially, the IA makes up a significant portion of the final grade for a subject, typically 20-30%. It is marked by their classroom teacher and then moderated by the IB to ensure global standards are consistent.
Predicted Grades are the grades the school estimates your child is likely to achieve in their final exams. They are not a guess; they are a professional judgment based on solid evidence.
Why they are so critical: For university applications (especially to the UK, USA, and Europe), Predicted Grades are everything. Universities use these grades to decide whether to make a conditional offer of admission, as applications are often submitted before final IB exams are taken.
