The Biology Syllabus, Broken Down
The 2025 syllabus is organised around four big themes and a scientific investigation. Here's what students cover, and where we focus.
Biology was fully revised for first teaching in 2023, with first examinations in May 2025, so the current cohort is sitting a brand-new syllabus. It is organised around four unifying themes across four levels of biological organisation, rather than a list of options, and aims to build conceptual understanding and scientific skills. Students take SL or HL and complete an individual Scientific Investigation worth 20%.
